New rules for .PH domain
ICANN accepts Philippine .PH domain rules
ICANN has accepted the Philippine rules for the administration of the .PH domain, a Philippine government official told INQ7.net.
“The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has acknowledged the new guidelines we submitted to them. The ICANN president has even congratulated the country for having the new rules,” said Virgilio Pena, chairman of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology and concurrent Philippine government representative to ICANN.
“In (the president’s) letter, it was indicated that the ICANN has accepted our new rules,” Pena added.
Early this year, the National Telecommunications Commission issued a new set of guidelines for the administration of the .PH domain. The guidelines became effective in October.
The NTC was mandated to draft new guidelines for the administration of the .PH country-code top level domain (ccTLD).
Joel Disini is the current administrator of the .PH domain.
The government guideline gives dotPH Inc., a company owned by Disini, three months after the rules became effective to decide whether to become a registry or a registrar.
If Disini rejects the new guidelines, government could elevate the .PH concerns to the ICANN.
