ICANN approves .MOBI sTLD
ICANN has approved the new .MOBI domain, assigned for mobile phone users accessing the internet.
ICANN has approved the new .MOBI sponsored top level domain (sTLD). Domain is assigned for the exclusive use of mobile phone users accessing the internet.
The move was expected to pave the way for widespread use of the web by mobile phone users, although ICANN representatives have said they doubt .MOBI websites would be available before 2006.
Websites using the .MOBI domain suffix for the exclusive use of mobile phone users are expected to be a stopgap solution to fill the divide between today’s small-memory mobile phones and future devices with more robust memory and processors.
